Obituary of Iva Jean Hawkes

Iva Jean Hawkes, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2023 in Mesa, Arizona.

She was born on February 8, 1932 in Safford, Arizona to parents Sidney Ivan and Pearl Allred. Iva Jean graduated from Mesa High School in 1950 and later attended business school. On August 31, 1951, she married Emery (Mickey) Hawkes and they settled in Tempe/Mesa, Arizona until moving to Show Low in 1996.

Iva Jean was a kind and caring woman who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved reading and playing games such as cribbage and dominos. She also enjoyed the outdoors and taking trips to Kino Bay, Mexico and Canada with loved ones.

Iva Jean is survived by her sons Michael Hawkes (Brenda), Jack Hawkes, and Timothy Hawkes (Mary); grandchildren Christopher Hawkes, Natalie Harrington, Jennifer Hudson, Robin Flora, Amber Katz-Howard, Melissa Coble, Stephanie Davidson, Dr. Nicholas Hawkes, and Timothy Hawkes; 18 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews.

Iva Jean was preceded in death by her husband Emery (Mickey) Hawkes, daughter Katherine Hawkes, and siblings Clyde Allred, Rita Goodman, Clarence Allred, and Lamar Allred.

A memorial for Iva Jean Hawkes will be held at Meldrum Mortuary (52 N Macdonald, Mesa, AZ 85201) on May 5, 2023 from 4-6pm. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
