Satish Baran

Obituary of Satish Chand Baran

On May 28, 2023, Satish “Sunny” Baran passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife, Nirmala, by his side. Sunny was a man of honor and integrity. His wife and four daughters were always his top priority. Apart from being the best husband and father, his favorite role was being a Nana to his six grandchildren. Sunny always had a smile on his face, and loved to tell jokes. You could feel his positive energy anytime you were in his presence.

Sunny was born on December 14, 1957 in Suva, Fiji to Ram and Phul Baran. On November 15, 1980, Sunny and Nirmala married and moved to Seaside, California where they had four daughters. Sunny worked for the U.S. Army as a chef for 25 years, and retired in Mesa, Arizona.

Sunny enjoyed watching all sports representing his West-Coast teams: the 49ers, Giants, and Warriors. Sunny loved to quiz people about sports history, and knew just as much as sports announcers. He created his own language that he shared with everyone he came in contact with. His most favorite word was “Mataroko.”

Sunny is post-deceased by his father, Ram Baran, who died on August 7, 2007, and his mother, Phul Baran, who died on March 23, 2013.

He is survived by his wife Nirmala. His children Nalini, Neetu, Sarita, and Sonya. His grandchildren Jaylon, Liam, Damian, Brody, Alani, and Bella. His sons-in-law David, Alex, and Adam. And his siblings Pusha, Kishor, Maya, and Raj.

We miss him dearly and will continue to keep his legacy alive for generations to come.
